You have a very tricky problem, since the leg of a bed requires a lot of stregnth. A patch or normal splice will not do, you may need to create a scarf joint (angled splice) and then cut out the back side with a router. You will need to remove around 75% of the original wood in a plough cut that extends about 6 inches in both directions from the splice. choose a very strong wood, rock maple will be best, use a very strong epoxy like T88 so that the repair will never loosen even it gets wet. BTW this is a professional class repair.
