ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

scratched dining room table top

I recently purchased a dining room table and six chairs, one of the chairs is a captain chair, they have cabriole legs, cherry finish and were made by Lamments furniture company in St. Louis, MO. I think the chair style is called open french country. I would like information on the furniture company if anyone has anything at all...I think they were made around 1920-1940. I purchased the set at an auction and they had set many antique crocks on the table top causing deep scratches in the glossy finish of the table top. I would like info on how to buff them out or do I need to refinish the top. The table is in excellent condition except for the scratches and because it is a very gloss finish they show up very well. Thanks for all your help. Annie
