You could also try brushing or padding on an acrylic clearcoat like the ones sold in art stores for faux finishing. After using a wire brush to remove the loose scale, (and maybe some steel wool), another option would be to faux finish the rust spots with a product like this: http://www.dickblick.com/zz271/05/products.asp?param=0&ig_id=2761 and then seal the whole bed. I have successfully done this with good results. Experiment and you will get the results you want.- Regards
