ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Antique Mahogany Buffet

My husband & I purchased an antique mahogany buffet and after getting it home I have started to notice that in the creases of the trim on the doors and drawer there is a buildup of ??. Also the finish has what looks like dull spots over almost all of the piece. It still has a shine of sorts but I assume that the piece could look much better.

Can you give me some ideas of how to fix this? This will be my first project so am not sure of the terminology. Would like not to have to strip and refinsh if possible. I would like to do this myself, I have the time now.

Also there are 2 cracks on base about 4 inches from back on both sides. What would be best way to glue this? Just to mention the buffet is not square but rounded which adds to uniqueness.

What can I use to get into the spots that my fingers will not fit? Is there some sort of brush, maybe a soft toothbrush?

Thanking you in advance for any help.
