Thanks a lot Mr.Norton for your info. Here is one recipe what I know:White hard varnish(after a book of The Cabinet-Maker's Guide,Greenfield,Mass.1825) It is very clear varnish that is easy to make and use.(preferably on light coloured woods) 1 quart of ethyl alcohol,10 ounces of sandarac,2 ounces of mastic,1/2 ounces of kauri.Mix the parts together and let it set for a day or two, than strain and ready to use.Use with fine brush or with a pad. Have fun!
