Water stain on wood

How do I remove a recent water mark that is a whitish color on an antique wood chest? It is a cedar lined chest but I don't know what the outer wood is. The chest color is a medium, reddish brown, not cherry but I think it may be pine or some knotty wood covered with a tinted stain. I tried vaseline but it didn't help.
