HI I'm restoring a regency period penwork sewing box. This box is veneered with brazilian rosewood and on a top of the lid there is a handcoloured litho picture in a penwork lattice frame.English, circa 1810.Unfortunately somebody removed the original finish (not the patina though). My question is:What kind of finish would be appropriate on this box to be able to preserve the original handcoloured pics and the surrounding penwork without any discolourization?I think shellac finish would be no good for sure considering the colour changes and the fact is french polishing was'nt popular in England in 1810.Maybe damar? Thanks Rgds Martin
