ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I recently dragged a 1910 chaise lounge from my parents. It has been in the rafters there for as long as I can remember. Some gentle taps got all the sides and end pieces to separate at their joints. However there is a crytalized glue in the joints. What is the best way to remove this glue, it is as hard as rock and actually looks like a resin? What is a good glue to use to reconnect it all after it is refinished.
Second question:
The wood is very (heavy emphasis on the very) dry. How can I rehydrate the wood and then put a stain and protective covering on it?
New to all this, so any help is appreciated.
Peter
