My great-grandfather handmade 2 rocking chairs(the other one is lost)but mine needs a new seat. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, but the curved front of the seat is all splintered. I want to refinish it because the stain is very dark, but need a new front to the seat. It's not elaborate, but very sentimental! It's at least 60 years old, maybe more. Any suggestions?
