The most common turning directions are 4 times left to the first number 3 times right to the second number 2 times left to the third number 1 time right to stop

the turning directions whould reverse as each new number is applied

different locks require different turning sequences, such as 4 left, 3 right 2 left, 1 right or 4 right, 3 left, 2 right, 1 left

the above sequence is for a 3 number combination (the final stopping point is not considered a combination number

Some locks have four numbers and must be dialed 5x to # 4x to # 3x to # 2x to # 1x to stopping point vary the turning directions if one set doesn't work, the reverse might

You can also look in the Yellow Pages under Safes (first) Locksmith second and have someone come and show you and service the lock (cheap insurance against malfunctions/lockouts. Lockouts can be expensive. Good Luck Ken Dunckel Safecracker/Boxman
