ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I have an old walnut bed. Circa 1840-1850. It is a primative bed country style bed and I am not sure it ever had varnish or a finish on it. The head board and foot boards are one solid piece of 18" walnut. Not small boards glued together to make a larger panel. The posts are 4" walnut turnings. The bottom supports are hard pine. It could have had an oil finish at one time but I can't be sure. The wood is very dry and dull with age. I would like to clean it up and restore it so that the beauty of the walnut shows but do not want to refinish it. Any suggestions and what I can do to bring out the beauty of the walnut without ruining the value of the bed?
