Sven, Antique furniture in disrepair is definitely a challenge but I've been able to bring several chairs back to life. No doubt the glue joints have totally dried out so best to take your chair completely apart & reglue. [mark all pieces on the ends as you remove them] If you haven't done so already, may I suggest using "Olympic" Antiquing Oil for your finish coat. I put 4 coats on seats, arm rests, etc. Places that will receive the most contact. One other thing. I make it a general rule to never use sandpaper, just varying numbers of steelwool. Sandpaper only as a last resort & use no lower grit than 150. Be gentle. It'll take a lot of elbow grease but your efforts will be worth it. Wish ya luck!
