restoring metal beds

I have three metal beds that I would like to restore. They have some old paint and rust on them. I don't want to have them sand blasted because they have some intricate detail that I do not want harmed. Any suggestions for removing the rust and old paint? Also, what type of paint should I use to re-paint them? I would think they have to be primed also, right?...any and all help is welcome! Thanks.
