You can use a very fine polish like rottenstone and parafin oil. This is so fine it won't leave much of a scratch. Get a hard rubber sanding block and a fine cotton cloth, use one layer of this , wraping it around the block. Remove the offending areas with even local polishing, clean very well with naptha, allow to dry completely. Re french the area, it should be good, congrat's on a tough technique, good luck, James.
