Some sculptures (like James Remington) Had up to 99 castings of a specific piece made;so if you have an item # 101 or higher, then its likely a repro or what have you . Usually there is a number cut off . If you can get to the underside and see if the metal coloration is correct or it could be a color washed or coated potmetal which is a shinny lead color if scratched. Another give away is the detail work.If it has "high definition "small details thats a plus. If its blunted , smeared ,or fine detail is missing then I'd be critical of the object. But either knowing the seller or the subject are the two best approaches.
