-just wanted to let you know we had the same situation in our home -my husband was hesitant to do anything-so when he was away for a week with work-I took up the carpet in the library and hand stripped the flooring with formbys poly remover and putty knife-and polyed three coats -it took me 5 days and alot of hours-but came out beautiful! He came home and loved it and we did the rest of the down stairs together and with doing it ourselves -repairs to the finish is easy(scratches and etc.)Good luck!
