Hi, I just wanted to let you know how we made out on the bird's eye maple dresser. We decided to not strip since the color of the maple was a beautiful, aged orange-ish (if you know what I mean about how BE maple gets). We cut out the old veneer repairs, and with the heated hide glue, put in newer bird's eye maple veneer. Then my husband messed around with the artists tints (the powders from the art supply store) in shellac and stained the new veneer. And then he lightly sanded and put shellac on the whole dresser. And voila!!! It is absolutely gorgeous!!! This is a whole new concept to us, restoring something that looks absolutely horrible. So far, we have restored two old drop leaf tables (both mahogany, one faded to what looked like a light maple, the other with about 7 coats of paint on it!), a few chests of drawers, and now my poor husband is working on an old game table, and about 5 other projects. He cannot keep up with my buying of the poor old things that need us to restore them! It is lots of fun, and we thank you for all of your helpful, generous advice. Thank you, Nancy
