ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I have a dresser that the veneer is chipping or peeled off. What can I do to minimize the flaw, (without replacing the wood)? Would sanding it lightly make it look better, at least where the wood and veneer meet. It sort of really sticks out. The dresser is a 1940's style with a curved front. Any suggestions?
