In Response To: teak wood (mona)

It's important to also see how the top is attached to the base. The wood needs to be able to move from season to season, and many of these imported tables are put together with glue, nailguns, pegs, and/or screws in an incorrect manner. Many times removal of the top will allow one to reglue the offending crack and make it disappear, and then affix the top in a correct manner to the base. Many restorers catalogs sell "clips" made of metal that have elongated holes in them that allow you to screw the top down to the base. Cheap and easy. Other methods also exist using elongated holes to allow for movement bored through battens, or the apron, or wooden blocks.
