Waterfall Dresser Crack

Hi, I just bought a waterfall dresser that has a crack in the top. It is a buckling like type of crack that runs in a straight line longways across the top for maybe 10 inches and is just a hair wide. (my guess is leaky aquarium) It is not buckled bad (maybe 2 or 3 hairs)and the veneer has not started to peel. It is painted a green I can only call "mashed peas" but I will be painting it white to match an existing waterfall vanity. Except for the crack and ugly paint it is in great shape. My question how do I go about fixing the crack? It is going in my 8 year old daughters room and will have a doily on it most of the time and it was only 11 bucks. But I still want to fix it so it doesn't get worse and ruin the whole thing. Also, any words of wisdom before I paint?! Thanks heaps, Holli PS here is a link to some pictures of my house. It is coming along! http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/hgribbons/my_photos
