There in lies the problem, you can't reglue alphetic resin, (carpenters wood glue). It must be removed from the wood to reveal fresh wood fibers. If this is an old chair that had hide glue in the joints you might be able to reactivate the old glue with fresh hide glue. Once I see the new glues I almost always have to disassemble, scrape all parts clean and start over, sorry, have fun.
