The magnet indicates that they are plated, but we knew that when you said they were rusted. Yow can disolve the rust with a salt vinegar and water mix. Oxalic acid can also work, as will some automotive products intended for cleaning chrome. Polish with semichrome, age with a little amonia fumes in a closed bucket, and apply a Brass Lacquer spray.
