If the brass bed does not look "that bad" - leave it be and enjoy it - - If you want it to sparkle - you've certainly taken on a career.

Have it professionally done and they will preserve the antiquity - try it yourself and wow - you have ruined an otherwise nice brass bed and created a lifetime job of cleaning it.
