In Response To: 1860s piano finish (Gregory Oliveri)

If you work carefully with an alcohol rubber you can remove as much or as little of the old finish as is needed. Work slowly with a moderately wet rubber. Let the finish dry thoroughly at least 4 hrs between sessions and keep turning the rubber to a fresh face. Once you have removed/reamalgamated the old finish then you can add newfinis by spraying then polishing. This process takes a lot of time ,but the results can be spectacular.
