Loose hammer handles

Is there an effective way to tighten the wooden handles on hammers. Have a few older hammers that the handles just won't stay on and would like to keep the mammers working (auto body hammers, tack hammers, etc.) The metal wedges are still in place but....... Thanks, Doyle
