I recently purchased some 1960s metal indoor side chairs. They are made of welded thin rectangular iron, with padded seats (that will be replaced). The iron is rusting in spots, and has some minor pitting. What should I do to remove the rust and repair the pitting (as much as possible)? Any suggestions to treat the chairs to avoid or reduce rusting in the future?
