Refinishing Cedar Chest

I am refinishing an old cedar chest and need some help. I've got it stripped and sanded and need to know what type of finish I should use. I was thinking of putting a few coats of gloss polyurithane on it but I'm not sure if I should use it or not. What does everyone else use? Thanks for the help.
