ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Pickled oak and grain filler

I want to change some pickled oak cabinets to a darker color. Although I havn't seen these cabinets yet, I believe a light colored grain filler was used to get the pickling effect. Will the filler take a stain if I remove the laquer on top? If not, I don't think things will look natural. Suggestions anyone?
