I use Navel Jelly to remove rust on trunks, also Oxalic Acid on the wood and metal as well. Alcohol mixed with equal parts of Lacquer Thinner will remove the finish and paint, after sanding the wood, stain and mask off, repaint the metal and stain and shellac the wood and painted parts all together, replace leather parts and paint out new nail heads.
