Antique trunk

I rescrued an antique trunk from a relative's barn. We know for a fact it is well over 100 years old. It is barrel-topped, with wooden slats across the top, and etched metal, which I assume is tin, on all sides. The wood is dull and dry and the metal is very rusted. What can I use on the metal to clean and restore it, and should I use a product such as Murphy's soap on the wood, followed by some type oil to rehydrate it?
