refinnishing butcher block

I have a old butcher block cut from a single finnished log. The log is approximately 24" deep. It has three legs, each is separate and has it's own individual hole. The legs are not interchangable. The legs and sides of the table are painted white and the paint is badly cracked but intact. The top is in fairly good shape but full of old lard and fat. It also has a small 3 pointed crack running with the grain of the log in its center. This table is quite old and I would like to refinnish it but am not sure how to clean it up. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
