ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Here is my situation. Have a cedar chest that had a very dark finish that was wrinkled with about 1/2 the veneer gone from the lid. After removing the finish I have noticed that there are several different kinds of wood. The inside is cedar veneer except for the back and bottom which is all cedar. The legs and decorative railing and molding seem to be a mixture of different woods. The front, lid and sides are veneer, but not sure what kind.
I probably need a dark finish to blend the different woods together close to the orginal finish. I have just about completed the stripping/sanding process and it't time to start thinking about finishes. I did not think this would be a problem until I un-covered the old finish and discovered the different types of wood.
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?
