These pieces were most likely stained with an Iodine Dye, the ox blood is fairly well removed with a stout ammonia you may find at a good hardware store. A good mask will be of minor help here, but ait tight goggles are a lot of help. If the ammonia does not help, a mix of 1/2 MEK and alcohol may help draw some of the dye out. Use steel wool to scrub and reduce the need of sanding, and thus revealing more red. Or do as most of us do and don't fight the red, embrace it with fresh dark mahogany stain, and get on to new challanges.
