One can make an extension to a bed rail by matching the connecter plate with a new set, or replicating the brackets primary shape. Put these on the legnth of extension you wish and reinforce the new material with a thin layer of plywood, which is six inches longer than the extension, epoxy to the extension to make a splice between the rail and the new part, hold the ply to the old rail with a couple short screws. This will fit into the sockets just like the old rail and the foot of the bed. Unless you wish to use my other method which involves cutting the rail so as to legnthin it.
