In Response To: Removal of Gilding from wood (Lawrence)

If it is gold leaf removing it will leave you with a layer of gesso that was used to smooth the wood which will have to be removed to get to the wood. In other words it is not worth the effort. If you wan to re gild then you can fill the missisng gess in prinme with gold primer then gild. the layers of gold leaf will go to gether with no visible seam and can then be glazed and finished to match the existing. gilding.
