old trunk

My family has recently found an old trunk that belonged to my dads great grandmother. Supposedly it came from Sweeden but aren't sure. I really want to refinish it for my parents as a gift but have no idea where to start. It has two layers of paint on it but other than that it's in pretty goo condition I think. If anyone has suggestions I could sur use tham. Thanks. KayKay
