ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I am going to try to repair a mirror my parents gave me after it took a nose dive off a wall one night (poor hanger). I would like to recreate some of the trim or decoration that was lost, but I don't know what kind of molding or modeling material to use. Also, what material should I use to make the new pieces - plaster or some type of plastic wood.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
