restoring gumwood trim

I would like some information on how to restore gumwood trim. Much of the trim, especially around the windows, is in really bad shape. I normally use a paste-would that damage the trim and how do I match it to the previous shine. It looks as though it has a golden oak/natural oak high gloss finish. I have been having trouble finding information on the best way to do this seeing as i don't know that much about gumwood in and of itself. Thank!
