A good place to start is with soap and water. Use mild soap and do not soak the wood just dampen rinse and wipe dry. It make take several washings to get the built up grime, then if the finish is in reasonably good condition a coat aof pste wax will give a little proteciton and a nice soft gloss. There are many patterns of fabric available that will give you an authentic llok. Check referenc books and the internet to find what the originals may have been.
