Musty smell in antique trunk

We have a antique trunk we hope to use for the clothing we take to pre 1840's Mountain Man rendezvous. Although the outside of the trunk is in fine shape, the paper on the inside is in bad shape and we will be replacing it. (With either new paper, or cloth.) Our main problem is getting the musty smell from the trunk first. Any help you can give us in this area, will be appreciated.
