The locale museum has probably got a few of these bowls in fair condition, take a look at how these appear to see if your expectations are realistic. Cleaning with Oxalic Acid and sanding may be all that is needed. They were never finished, just cleaned and dried, and used again. Any finish would have worn off, if you want a finish, so you can see the grain more clearly, try a salad bowl oil.
