In Response To: old buffet/sideboard (Gary)

I would use a paint thinner with 0000 steel wool, lemon oil will work too. This will remove the old wax and some of the dirt. Next a mild soap and water if there is and dirt left, wipe dry immediatly. Next I would use an oil stain (Watco) that comes closest to the curent color. Wipe on a thin film of the oil stain, rub with more 0000 steel wool, after twenty minutes remove all the stain that hasn't soaked into the scratches, soak rags with water and discard out of doors. Many items can now be waxed, if you need more finish you can apply a couple coats of shellac. Rub out with 0000 steel wool after 48 hours of drying, and wax to satin shine.
