Terry, If someone abraded the marble enough to indent it and not remove the stains - those stains are deep. Although there are steps you can do at home which were mentioned by James - it sounds like an incredible amount of labor. Are you opposed to bringing this stone into a marble shop and have it ground down and repolished? It's not that expensive. They have the correct machinery for the job.
