Old Trunk

I have an old trunk from an aunt's estate that I am interested in restoring. Is there any print material that would help me know where to start? It has some wooden slats, some metal trim and corner protectors, some fabric that has deteriorated--probably canvas-like or linen-covering the outside, the carrying handles (probably were leather) are gone although the metal end fasteners are there. Inside, there is a paper lining and also a tray. I would guess 1800s. The trunk is basically sound. Thanks
