I have had success buying "converter rails" something you can get at most cheap furniture stores. They are metal rails that are long enough for queen size mattresses. They allow the mattress to hang over 3 inches on each side. You barely notice it. These work best on the old oak turn of the century style beds. Won't work on the victorian type hooks. Cost is about $30-$35.
