Spar can be tricky since it is a bit soft and the scratches from steel wool may be anoying to you. Steel wool will work but be consistant in the direction you polish and use a lubricant like parafin oil, naptha, or water. Also wait two weeks for the finish to harden. I think I would try a polish like punice and parafin oil first, if thit isn't dull enough then try the steel wool.
