ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

I am new to the message board and rather inexperienced. My mom has given me an Ice Cream Table (iron legs, wood top) and 2 matching Chairs. How do I find out how old it really is? She swears it has to be early 1900's or even late 1800's. Also, the wood seats must be replaced, however, the design will only take 1/8 or so thickness. What type of wood do I look for and where?
Thanks so much, Kay
