In Response To: Hide glue vs newer glues (Todd)

You could get most of the advantages of hide glue by using Liquid Hide Glue, no pot needed. I find hide glue that is over a hundred years old and still vibrant, in my boof that is good enough. The thing about antiques is that when fixing them we like to use the original materials when ever possible. Futhermore hide glue will attach to old hide glue, making glue removal for reglue almost unimportant. But let us pay clear attention to adhesive removal, hide glue is easily disolved with white vinegar, making any loose joint repariable. When you glue joints with CA (ZAP) you have a nonreversable mess. The wood breaks instead of the glue, big problem! Furniture that can be repaired will be around alot longer, and makes furniture I build into future heirlooms.
