Paste wood filler is the only way to achieve a full fill finish. It should be pu on after the surface has been sealed. It should be colored the same color as the dark grain of the wood you are filling. You can try putting it over the tung oil, but that may be a recipe for disaster. I would recommend stripping, staining sealing, then filling then building a finish with gloss lacquer to get the kind of finish you need for this look.
