ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

edge chipping off of mahogany dresser

I had a dresser refinished last year, stripped, stained, and french polished.

There is some veneer (I believe) on the front of the frame, and some inlaid lines about one going around the fronts of each drawer.

I've just noticed while dusting today that on the top piece of the frame, pieces at the very edge of the bottom are chipping off.

What might have caused this to happen? Is there anything I can do to prevent it, or fix it? I just spent over $800 dollars to refinish the piece, and since the chips are all right at eye level, it now looks horrible.
